The goal of MathCounts is to prepare students to compete against other middle school students in the MathCounts competition. This competition is for students who enjoy working through difficult math problems and applying what they have learned in their math classes. Students will first compete against students that attend Jefferson and have the opportunity to compete at a regional and state level.

This is a competition for students in grades 5th-8th grade to demonstrate knowledge and applications of Chemistry.

A school qualifier test is administered to place the teams together for the Regional YBTC Local Challenge Competition in March. 

The State Challenge requires a team of 3-4 students to compete in a Regional tournament on Chemistry concepts.

As part of the You Be The Chemist Challenge®, teams investigated and created a video in which they formed a start-up company to investigate the concept of sustainability connected to fundamental chemistry principles focused on solving the problems of tomorrow. 
Preparing for the challenges can be done individually or with appointments with team members. Resources will be shared and on YBTC website.

students that meets after school at the Alden B. Dow Home and
Studio. Writers of all levels enjoy an inspirational setting, a supportive

Athletics

All 7th and 8th graders can try out/participate in all sports. 6th graders are welcome to participate in non-cut sports such as cross-country, wrestling, swimming and track & field. 6th graders WILL NOT be allowed to play on any football team at any level for the 2024 season.

Pom/cheerleading is available through the Greater Midland Community Center for any 6th, 7th or 8th grader.
